Aurora D. Medina, a once-struggling reader in elementary school, fell in love with books and reading when she discovered the Dr. Seuss Books. Later, she delighted in books by Shel Silverstein, Beverly Cleary, and Judy Blume. Eventually, when her son was learning to read, Aurora cherished reading Barbara Park's Junie B. Jones books with him.

 

Public and school libraries served as Aurora's escape into magical worlds. Once, while sneak-reading during her 5th-grade class, Aurora laughed so loud that her classmates nicknamed her "Rory Medina, the laughing hyena!"

 

Aurora graduated from Adams State University with a major in English, a minor in speech and theater, and a master's degree in school counseling. She taught high school journalism, newspaper, yearbook, literature, creative writing, and reading. She also counseled young people at the middle school and high school levels. Before retiring as a public educator, Aurora was the founding principal of an early college high school and a career pathways program.

Today, Aurora works as a college counselor at an independent school that serves students with learning differences. In her spare time, she devotes herself to documenting the adventures and misadventures of her beloved characters.​

Aurora still adores reading and laughing.
